Lilit Cafe

Lilit Cafe! Gluten free deliciousness! (From what my gluten-eating friends tell me, the other food is quite good as well.) This wonderful little cafe, located at 7921 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, MD, is worth the over half hour drive it takes me to get there. The little yellow awning is such a beacon.

The Lilit Cafe boasts a baker that has celiac. In addition to the sandwiches that the Cafe prepares on-site, with gluten free deli meats and cheeses, there is a large selection of baked goods that one can take home. There's wonderful sandwich bread that tastes remarkably like homemade honey-wheat 'normal' bread. The baker frequently changes her selections, offering several different types of cookies (snickerdoodles and chocolate chip). Even for someone who dislikes bananas, the banana bread is a treat.

The Cafe has been offering sandwiches for a while now. Recently, they expanded to pizza (I've only tried one kind--it was cheesy and a bit greasy, but certainly hit the spot). Given that the Cafe has a wide selection of wines and even offers gluten-free beer, it really is a perfect place to go for a seriously comforting meal.

Oh, and the homemade gelato helps too. Check it out: http://www.lilitcafe.com.

  1. Just wanted to clarify that the baked goods sold at Lilit Cafe are made at Sweet Sin, a dedicated gluten free bakery in Baltimore. Here is my review of Lilit Cafe. Good luck with the new blog and thanks for for the mentions! http://www.examiner.com/x-5121-DC-Gluten-Free-Examiner~y2009m3d9-Lilit-Cafe-Gluten-free-paradise
